KEY WEST, Fla. (CNN/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A Florida mayor hooked 70 pounds of cocaine during a fishing trip near Key West.
The office of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said she and her family hauled out the illegal drugs from the water last month. Authorities said the drugs were worth more than $1 million, and according to the United States Border Patrol, the catch happened about an hour from Key West on July 23.
Mayor Castor's team said the family contacted the local sheriff's office and U.S. Border Patrol agents took the drugs. The news was later confirmed in a Tweet by Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar.

It wasn't Mayor Castor's first time bringing in evidence, as she spent 31 years working for the Tampa Police Department.
The discovery came during a busy July for border patrol agents in the island chain. According to the Tampa Bay Times, the weekend before the mayor's discovery, a boater discovered a three-pound bale of marijuana off Islamorada in the Upper Keys, and the day before, another person found an eight-pound bale of marijuana floating around 13 miles off Big Pine Key in the Lower Keys. A week before Mayor Castor's big catch, someone else found a brick of cocaine weighing 2.7 pounds.
Per the publication, the mayor's family spent the rest of the time diving and fishing, and while they found no more drugs, they caught about 60 lobsters.
